Purpose: Healthcare facility

Air conditioning and heating: VRF-system

Vyshhorod Central District Hospital is a multidisciplinary healthcare facility in the Kyiv region, operating since 1983. The hospital offers a wide range of medical services to the residents of Vyshhorod and the Vyshhorod district—from consultations and diagnostics to treatment, rehabilitation, and disease prevention. The hospital comprises an inpatient ward, an outpatient clinic, a laboratory, and emergency departments.

In recent years, Vyshhorod Central District Hospital has been undergoing a large-scale infrastructure upgrade: wards are being modernized, major renovations are being carried out, and building systems are being updated to create safe and comfortable environments for patients and medical staff. One of the stages of this modernization was the upgrade of the air conditioning and heating systems. This was achieved by installing a Blauberg VRF system, which maintains an optimal indoor climate throughout the medical facility.

Features of Air Conditioning and Heating in Medical Facilities

A unique aspect of this project was the need to implement the air conditioning and heating system across various functional areas of the hospital, including the maternity ward, the rehabilitation unit, the neonatal intensive care unit, the vaccination room, the treatment room, the residents’ office, and sanitation and hygiene facilities. Each of these areas has its own temperature requirements, so it is important to maintain a stable microclimate for the comfort of patients and medical staff.

The optimal solution for this facility was the Blauberg multi-zone VRF system. It allows for simultaneous air conditioning and heating of a large number of rooms, with independent temperature control in each zone. Centralized control, high energy efficiency, and scalability make this system the optimal solution for medical facilities.

PRO Series Outdoor Units

The project utilized BlauCool BLHVE-S280-O/3R1A and BLHVE-S400-O/3R1A outdoor units.

  • The system allows for up to 100 indoor units to be connected, and the total length of the refrigerant piping can reach 1,000 m. This enables the implementation of a single air conditioning and heating system for large buildings with different functional zones.
  • Thanks to EVI technology, the equipment maintains up to 85% of its rated capacity at –15 °C and operates stably in the range from –30 °C in heating mode to +55 °C in cooling mode.
  • Additional advantages of the series include a seven-level energy-saving mode, which optimizes power consumption based on the current load, as well as a night mode that reduces the noise level of the outdoor units down to 10 dBA. his is particularly important for a medical facility, as the equipment is installed near the building next to the windows; therefore, the system’s quiet operation helps ensure comfortable conditions for patients and medical staff.

MINI Series Outdoor Units

The BlauCool MINI BLHV-R160-O/3R1A, BLHV-R224-O/3R1A and BLHV-R280-O/3R1A were also used for this project. The equipment is fitted with dual-rotor DC inverter compressors, which ensure high energy efficiency, low noise , and reduced vibration during operation. The compact design simplifies transportation, installation, and placement of the equipment on-site, while the wide operating temperature range—up to +55 °C in cooling mode and down to –20 °C in heating mode—ensures stable system operation throughout the year.

Results of Implementing the BlauCool VRF System

The equipment was delivered and installed between 2025 and 2026 in 4–5 implementation phases. As of today, some of the VRF systems have already been commissioned, and the rest will be put into operation after the next stages of the hospital’s upgrade are completed. The use of the Blauberg multi-zone VRF system has made it possible to provide individual temperature control in rooms with different purposes and to create comfortable conditions for patients and healthcare staff.
