“Atlant” is a Ukrainian company that has been operating in the market for building materials and renovation goods for over 20 years. Through its own online store, it sells building materials throughout Ukraine and operates a network of warehouses and distribution centers in Kyiv, Dnipro, and Kharkiv. The product range includes over 20,000 items from leading global and Ukrainian brands “Atlant” works with both retail customers and construction companies, developers, and wholesale clients, and provides professional material selection, consulting support, logistics, and product delivery.
Stages of the BlauCool VRF System Project
To ensure a comfortable indoor climate in Atlant’s office spaces, the modern Blauberg BlauCool VRF system was selected. A unique detail of the project was that the system was installed after the renovation was completed; therefore, when developing technical solutions, it was necessary to consider both the requirements for effective air conditioning and the specific features of the interior.

The project involved the client, the designer, representatives of the installation company, and technical specialists from Blauberg. The collaborative effort of all participants made it possible to find optimal solutions for equipment placement and utility routing without compromising the office design concept.

Stage 1. Determining the Location of Indoor Units

Since the office had already been renovated, wall-mounted indoor units from the Blauberg BlauCool BLHV-I-Wall series were selected for the project. The routes for laying the refrigerant lines to each unit were also agreed upon.

While analyzing the floor plan and airflow distribution, the specialists concluded that using several smaller-capacity units would be more effective than installing a single large one. This solution ensured even distribution of cooled air and comfortable conditions for employees. The equipment was placed at the top of the walls between the windows.

The refrigerant lines were routed under the ceiling, taking into account the location of the floor beams. Decorative ducts were not used, which allowed for the seamless integration of the engineering systems into the office interior design.

Preparing the installation site for the Blauberg BLHV-I-Wall wall-mounted indoor unit

The project utilizes 14 wall-mounted indoor units from the Blauberg BlauCool BLHV-I-Wall series: 2 BLHV-22-I-W-DC/1R1A units, 8 BLHV-28-I-W-DC/1R1A units, and 4 BLHV-36-I-W-DC/1R1A units.

  • Low operating noise from the indoor unit is ensured by the fact that the units are equipped with a cross-flow fan. In cooling mode, air is supplied horizontally, which reduces direct airflow on employees and increases comfort in the work area. In heating mode, the airflow is directed vertically downward along the wall, promoting uniform temperature distribution throughout the room.
  • Flexible installation. The refrigerant piping can be connected to the indoor unit from either side, which helped avoid installation complications and significantly simplified the routing plan.
  • Minimalist design ensures the units blend seamlessly with the existing interior of the room.

Stage 2. Selection and placement of the outdoor unit

Initially, it was considered to place the outdoor unit on the right side of the building. In this case, the refrigerant line would have to run through the central corridor, branching off to the north and south offices.

However, VRF systems have limitations regarding the distance from the first branch (refrigerant manifold) to the farthest indoor unit (40 m for PRO versions, 20 m for the MINI series). Since the office is 70 m long, it was impossible to place the outdoor unit on the side of the building. To avoid exceeding the maximum allowable length of the refrigerant lines, it was decided to install the Blauberg BlauCool BLHVE-S400-O/3R1A outdoor unit on the roof in the central part of the building. This allowed for a 40-meter main line to be run in both directions, which is quite sufficient for this office space. The client decided to leave the northern part of the office without air conditioning, but with the option to expand the system in the future, so the design includes a capacity reserve for the outdoor unit. Shut-off valves were pre-installed at potential connection points for new indoor units, allowing for quick system expansion. The total capacity of the installed indoor units is 35 kW (the minimum possible load for the VRF system to operate is 70% of the outdoor unit’s capacity).

Since the unit was installed on the roof in the center of the building, it was important to ensure its reliable operation under any weather conditions. With a wide operating range, the equipment operates stably at outdoor temperatures ranging from -30 °C in heating mode to +55 °C in cooling mode. Through the use of EVI technology, the system maintains up to 85% of its rated capacity at –15 °C and demonstrates higher performance compared to standard VRF solutions. The maintenance access window on the front panel provides quick access to check the unit’s status without removing the cover, simplifying maintenance and increasing operational reliability, especially when the equipment is installed on the roof.

An important factor was the system’s modularity—up to 64 indoor units can be connected to a single outdoor unit. Currently, 14 units have been installed, so the system has significant potential for future scaling.

Stage 3. Installation of piping, indoor and outdoor units. System testing

During the third stage, the refrigerant piping was installed, all indoor units and the outdoor unit were mounted, and a comprehensive inspection of the piping system was conducted.


The system check included three key stages:

  • Leak test. Once the piping was installed, the system was filled with nitrogen at a pressure of 40 kgf/cm² (4.0 MPa) simultaneously from both the gas and liquid sides. The test lasted 24 hours.
  • Evacuation. After confirming the airtightness, the system was evacuated to a level of -0.1 MPa simultaneously from both sides (gas and liquid).
  • Refrigerant charging. The amount of refrigerant required for charging was calculated individually, taking into account the actual length of the pipes, their diameters, and the height difference between the outdoor and indoor units. All parameters (refrigerant volume, pipe diameters, line lengths, and height differences) were recorded in a verification table on the cover of the outdoor unit’s junction box for future maintenance.

Project result
The Blauberg BlauCool VRF system project for the Atlant office was successfully completed, meeting all key requirements. The installation of the system after the renovation was completed confirmed that even under such conditions, it is possible to implement an effective and aesthetically pleasing solution. By skillfully positioning the equipment (indoor units between windows and the outdoor unit in the center of the roof), we were able to meet the restrictions on the length of the ductwork, preserve the interior without decorative covers, and ensure uniform distribution of conditioned air. As a result, a comfortable indoor climate has been created for employees in the office. The system operates reliably in both cooling and heating modes, has a significant power reserve (40 kW at a current load of 35 kW), and is ready for scaling—in the future, the northern part of the office can be easily connected without replacing the outdoor unit. The use of modern Blauberg technologies (EVI, intelligent monitoring, service functions) ensured high energy efficiency, reliability, and easy maintenance.
